Research Abstract: Immigration

The social issue that I will be researching and writing about is immigration. America was founded by immigrants, and immigration has played a large role in our nation’s history. Places like Ellis Island stand as landmarks demonstrating the importance of immigration in our history.

We are going through a time right now where extremely harsh, and questionably unconstitutional, restrictions are being made on immigration. This is a basic human rights issue because people coming from Muslim countries are unable to enter the United States. What’s occurring right now in our country completely goes against the past American ideology of the whole country being a “melting pot”.

My argument will be that people should be able to immigrate where they choose, no matter what their religion is. Of course there must be some restrictions, but a total ban on immigrants from particular countries is unprecedented.
